Dr. Saadaq Adan Hussein is a seasoned public health professional and epidemiologist, currently serving as a Lecturer at Benadir University, where he teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. He holds an MBBCh degree with a specialization in Tropical and Infectious Diseases from Benadir University and is a graduate of the Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP). He also received advanced training in disease surveillance, data analysis, and academic research from the Makerere Institute of Social Development in Uganda.
Dr. Saadaq currently serves in the Office of the Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, under the Social Pillar – Health Sector. He brings extensive experience across government institutions, academia, private healthcare, and international organizations. He previously served as the National Liaison for the Eastern Mediterranean Public Health Network (EMPHNET) and held leadership roles at De Martino Public Hospital and the Somalia-Turkey Training and Research Hospital. His academic collaborations span both local and international institutions, including Daffodil International University and Lincoln University.
He is the founder of the SOR Institute and currently serves as the Mentorship Program Coordinator for Postgraduate Studies and a Consultant with the Innovation Hub at Benadir University, where he actively supports research and survey advancement.His research interests include infectious disease surveillance, health systems strengthening, health policy, One Health, climate resilience, vaccine-preventable diseases, and neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). Dr. Saadaq is a published researcher and serves as a peer reviewer for several leading journals, including BMC Public Health, Journal of Global Infectious Diseases, and Discover Public Health.
Dr. Fartun Abdullahi Hassan Orey is a committed pediatrician and lecturer focused on advancing pediatric, child, and adolescent health. She earned her Master’s degree in Pediatric and Child Health from Makerere University and her Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery from Benadir University.
Her research interests include neonatal care, child neurodevelopment, child and adolescent health, and childhood immunization. Dr. Fartun was Adolescent and Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health Coordinator in a collaborative project between SIMAD University and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) as part of the Afya Consortium.
She also serves as a pediatrician at Dr. Sumait Hospital and lectures at SIMAD University’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Science. Previously, she has held various roles in medical institutions such as the Somali-Sudanese Specialist Hospital and Benadir Hospital. As a passionate advocate for child health, Dr. Fartun contributes through rigorous research, impactful teaching, influential social media presence, and international collaborations.
She is actively engaged in several professional and community initiatives, including the Somali Researchers Association (SRA), the Somali Pediatric Association (SPA), and the Somali National Immunization Technical Advocacy Group (NITAG). Dr. Fartun is a founding member and the current president of the Somali Pediatric Association.
Dr. Mohamed Sheikh Hassan Qalaf is a highly regarded neurologist, accomplished academic researcher, and editorial board member for several reputable international journals. He currently serves as a consultant neurologist at the Mogadishu Somalia Turkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Training and Research Hospital.
Dr. Qalaf has authored over 60 scientific research articles published in esteemed peer-reviewed journals, with his work being widely cited by scholars from diverse global regions. He actively practices clinical neurology and neurophysiology in a tertiary care setting, where he is deeply involved in both patient care and medical education.
A passionate advocate for neurological health, Dr. Qalaf plays a leading role in promoting stroke and epilepsy care across Somalia. He is an active member of several prominent professional organizations, including the World Stroke Organization, the Middle East and North Africa Stroke Organization (MENA Stroke), and the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society (MDS).
Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Bashir is a dedicated internal medicine specialist currently serving at the Mogadishu Somali Türkiye Training and Research Hospital, where he holds dual roles as a practicing internist and the Deputy Education Coordinator. He is a PhD candidate in Public Health at LIUTEBM University, with research interests focused on non-communicable diseases and health systems strengthening in low-resource settings.
Dr. Bashir is the Co-founder and President of Diabetes Somalia, a nonprofit organization committed to improving diabetes care, education, and research in Somalia. In line with his vision for accessible and high-quality medical education, he also founded the Mogadishu Virtual Academy, where he serves as President, spearheading initiatives in e-learning and continuing medical education.
He is an active contributor to academic medicine and health education in Somalia and beyond. As Secretary for Research and Continuing Medical Education (CME) at the Somali Internal Medicine Association (SIMA), he plays a key role in organizing scientific programs and fostering evidence-based practice among clinicians.
Dr. Bashir has authored and co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed scientific publications, addressing critical topics in internal medicine, public health, and clinical research. He currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Dunya Journal of Medical Sciences, and as Academic Editor for the Somalia Türkiye Medical Journal. He is also an editorial board member and peer reviewer for multiple international journals, contributing to the global scholarly community through rigorous manuscript evaluation and mentorship.
Dr. Ali Yassin Sheikh is Somali scholar and assistant professor at SIMAD University in Mogadishu. He holds Bachelor in Applied economics, MEPM, MBA and PhD in Business Administration from International University of Africa in Sudan (IUA) and Sudan University of Science and Technology respectively. Prof. Dr. Abdullahi Mohamud Sharif is a distinguished professor and expert in Information Technology Management with over 21 years of experience in academia, research, and IT project leadership. Currently serving as a Professor at Somali National University, he has supervised numerous PhD and master’s students, published extensively in journals and conferences, and played key roles in national education policy, curriculum development, and capacity-building initiatives. His multilingual capabilities and dedication to modernizing Somalia’s IT and STEM education systems reflect a deep commitment to academic excellence and technological advancement.
He has managed numerous IT projects and delivered professional training in project management. His research and professional interests include software risk assessment, IT management, project management for SMEs, software engineering, STEM education policy, educational technology, Fintech innovation, and ICT for development.
Dr. Ahmed Adam Mohamed is senior Lecturer at Somali National University, he is Public Health professional, Researcher and Academician with extensive experience working in Somalia, Led the implementation of various projects, surveys, researches, baseline assessment and evaluations, participated in the development of national policies plans and M&E frameworks at both project level and sector wide, Dr. Ahmed Holds a PhD in Environmental Science from Sudan Academy Of Science, MPH from Tehran University of Medical Science, Iran, and MSc in Public and environmental health from Jazeera University Sudan, Dr. Ahmed has being working with the ministry of health for the last ten Years in deferent capacities including director of Public Health, Health system Analysis Advisor, his research interests include Health systems, Health policy, climate change and Health.
Bilan Sheikh Ali Nor. Bilan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science from Plasma University and a Master’s degree in Infectious Diseases from Kenyatta University. She plans to pursue a PhD to further advance her academic and research career. Bilan has authored articles in academic journals and serves as a senior part-time lecturer, teaching microbiology and related subjects at private higher education institutions in Mogadishu, Somalia. She is currently working as a laboratory consultant for a World Bank–funded project under the Ministry of Health. In addition, she has supervised and mentored over ten undergraduate research thesis. Her primary research interest focuses on the diagnosis of infectious diseases.
Dr. Abdulkadir Jeilani Mohamud, has a double PhD of information communication technology (ICT) and high diploma of education. Conducted several research projects and training programs. He is Currently working as Lecturer at Somali National University and he has been working senior lecturer at Mogadishu University. His teaching expertise are courses such as Computer graphics, ICT Project Management, Information Security Management, Embedded System, Advanced Java, Database Management System, ICT entrepreneurship, Operations and physical security, ICT strategic planning, Cryptographic and network security, Project Management Leadership, Research methodology, mathematical modelling, quantitative data analysis and qualitative data analysis. On the research side, his research profile consists of more than 25 articles some of them published in peer reviewed journals and he is editor and reviewer. On the project side, he has managed a project called upgrading of server rooms for custom automation systems in Somalia and other several projects related software and hardware. Dr. Abdifatah Ahmed Ali Afyare
Assistant Professor of Political Science and International Relations at Salaam University
Dr. Abdifatah Ahmed Ali Afyare is a Somali scholar and Assistant Professor specializing in Political Science and International Relations. With a dynamic and approachable teaching style, he has gained recognition for fostering engaging lectures and thought-provoking discussions that inspire his students.
Dr. Afyare holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, a Master’s in International Relations, and a Ph.D. in International Relations. Shafie Sharif holds an MBA and Ph.D. in quality management from the International Islamic University Malaysia. Dr. Shafie is the Managing Director of the Somali Researchers Association (SRA) . He has 10+ years in research. Over the years in the research field, he worked as an enumerator, supervisor, and fieldwork manager. He played a key role in research projects, surveys, baseline assessment, data quality assessment, mapping size estimation, market research, and post-campaign assessments He is knowledgeable of both qualitative and quantitative methods. Dr. Shafie has successfully managed research grants from public, private, and NGOs.
He has published numerous articles in scholarly journals and has written many opinion columns for major newspapers. He is also the chief editor of the Horn of Africa Journal of Social Science, and a peer reviewer for different indexed journals. In addition to his extensive research history, He is a senior part-time lecturer at private higher education institutions in Somalia and has supervised more than 15 master theses from various universities in Somalia. He is the author of the best-selling book, “CAAWIYAHA CILMI-BAARAHA.”
Dr. Mohamed Adam Isak is in Computer Science field over fifteen years. He contributes in teaching computer science & IT courses at the universities in Mogadishu, Somalia since 2013. Dr. Mohamed has authored three books: Cryptography & Network Security Notes, Software Engineering Notes and Cloud Computing Fundamentals. His academic papers appeared in IEEE proceedings, European Journal of Computer Science & Information Technology and some other international journals.
Dr. Mohamed holds a PhD. in Information Technology from Al-Butana University, Sudan. He has earned his Master & B.Sc. degree in IT at the Libyan Academy of graduate studies, & the Islamic Call College, Libya respectively.
Dr. Yusuf Ali Abdulle is the Dean Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary of Salaam University, in Mogadishu- Somalia. He received Bachelor of Agricultural science from University of Agriculture Faisalabad in 2015 and started his master studies University of the Punjab, Lahore. After completion of his master in Plant Pathology, he started his Ph.D research work at Institute of plant protection, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Beijing. Dr. Yusuf Worked on bio pesticide engineering including interrelationship between microbial protein and plant, biological protein detection and study of its function. During his Ph.D research he published in a various local as well as international journals, and also presented in a number of international conferences.
Eng. Jama Adam Salah is a project & power system engineer, researcher and educator with over 5 years of significant experience working on telecommunication projects, data centers, base stations, renewable energy technology projects and so on. He holds a bachelor degree in Telecommunication Engineering with the honors from GU University, a Postgraduate in Education Management and Higher Teaching from Islamic University, Uganda (IUIU), Kampala, and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (Power and Energy) from Kampala International University, Kampala, Uganda. His research interest includes the design and simulation of RET projects, project management practices in telecommunication and construction industries etc.
Dr. Mohamed Abdulkadir Hassan-Kadle holds MBChB from Benadir University, Somalia, Gastro & Liver Specialist from RUDN University, Russia. He is currently pursuing PhD at RUDN University, Russia. He is a lecturer of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Abrar University and Benadir University, Somalia. Dr. Kadle is the founder of SomGastro Clinic and First Liver Centre in Somalia. He has published over 30 papers in international refereed journals and conference proceedings. His research focuses on gastroenterology and liver diseases.
Dr. Hussein Ahmed Salad is a Somali professional educationist, currently serving as a Lecturer and dean at Daha International University, Faculty of education, Al Arabiya University, and Gaheyr Teacher Training Collage where he teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. He holds a bachelor of Education in Arabic. MA in Arabic, MA in curriculum and teaching methodologies, and PhD in Arabic. Dr. Hussein worked in different fields of education including , national curriculum development from pre-school stage up to secondary text books, and exam item development, Dr. Hussein worked with the Somali Ministry of education in item respond analysis of national secondary certificate exam in 2024/2025. Dr. Hussein published many articles and participated several academic conferences, organized by local universities, the articles entitled:
