In 2025, Somalia’s population grew faster than its economy. The population grew by 3.34%, while real GDP grew by 3.1%, according to the World Bank and the Somalia National Bureau of Statistics (SNBS).
Key figures
- Population growth: 3.34% (2025)
- Real GDP growth: 3.1% (2025)
- Gap: population growth is 0.24 percentage points higher than economic growth
Why it matters
When the population grows faster than the economy, the average income per person does not rise. With these figures, real GDP per person fell slightly, by about 0.2% in 2025. For living standards to improve, economic growth needs to stay above population growth.
