CATI & CAPI DATA COLLECTION
Reliable Data Collection Across Somalia
Somali Researchers Association (SRA) provides Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) and Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI) services for research institutions, development partners, government agencies, and other organizations conducting surveys in Somalia.
We support both large-scale and targeted surveys, from questionnaire programming and field preparation through data collection, quality assurance, and delivery of clean datasets.
CAPI – Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing
SRA conducts face-to-face interviews using tablets or other digital devices, enabling data to be collected directly in the field.
Our CAPI support can include:
- Household and individual surveys
- Urban, peri-urban and rural data collection
- Enumerator recruitment and training
- Questionnaire programming and testing
- Sampling and fieldwork planning
- GPS-enabled data collection, where required
- Daily field monitoring and quality checks
- Supervisor verification and back-checks
- Data cleaning and secure dataset delivery
CAPI is particularly suitable for household surveys, baseline and endline studies, evaluations, perception surveys, socioeconomic studies, and other research requiring direct interaction with respondents.
CATI – Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviewing
SRA also supports surveys conducted remotely by trained interviewers through telephone interviews.
Our CATI support can include:
- Telephone-based individual and household surveys
- Interviewer recruitment and training
- Digital questionnaire administration
- Call scheduling and respondent follow-up
- Interview monitoring and supervision
- Quality-control and verification procedures
- Data cleaning and reporting
CATI can be particularly useful for rapid assessments, perception surveys, follow-up studies, panel surveys, monitoring exercises, and research where face-to-face access may be difficult or costly.
From Survey Design to Final Dataset
Depending on client requirements, SRA can support the full data-collection cycle:
Survey Design → Sampling → Questionnaire Programming → Training → Pilot Testing → Data Collection → Quality Assurance → Data Cleaning → Final Dataset
SRA can also provide local guidance on geographic accessibility, sampling feasibility, field logistics, respondent recruitment, and relevant local permissions or approvals required for research in Somalia.
Flexible to Client Platforms and Protocols
SRA can implement surveys using client-specified digital data-collection platforms, questionnaires, sampling protocols, quality standards, and reporting requirements.
For international multi-country studies, our team can work within standardized methodologies while providing the local knowledge required to adapt field implementation to the Somali context.
